A watchful herder on short legs
Welsh Corgis are friendly, confident cattle dogs. Some may try to herd running children or other animals; early training helps in daily life.
Everyday life
Plan daily walks, scent games and settling practice. Keep a healthy weight and avoid excessive jumping if your dog has back concerns.
When you need to go out
Being alone needs gradual practice. The RSPCA advises no more than four hours at a time; puppies and some adults need much shorter intervals. Arrange company during longer absences.
Day-to-day care
Brush the coat several times a week and expect regular shedding. Check skin, ears, teeth and nails.
Size and build
Measurements describe adult dogs and are a guide. Lines and individuals can vary; ask about the parents’ health, temperament and daily life.
Health
Reported concerns include hip dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease and eye conditions. Weight management and relevant health screening matter.
