This notice explains how personal data is processed on fellfolio.com and in the Fellfolio app.
Hosting and technical access data
The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Requests involve processing IP addresses, requested pages, times, browser and connection information to deliver the site, keep it reliable and protect against abuse.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in a secure and reliable information website. This connection data is technically necessary to access the site.
Cloudflare operates a worldwide network; data may be processed outside the European Economic Area, particularly in the USA. Its data processing terms describe safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and, where applicable, EU standard contractual clauses. Retention depends on purpose, security needs and legal duties, as detailed in Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Interactive examples and embedded content
This site uses no advertising pixels, analytics scripts or external fonts. Images are served with the website. There is no contact form. Notes and completions in the fictional care example remain only in your browser’s memory and reset on reload. They are not sent to us.
The host’s necessary security functions may process connection data and, where needed, security cookies. Cloudflare explains these in its security-cookie documentation.
Search, breed comparison and breed finder
The website’s knowledge tools process search terms, filters and answers only in your browser’s memory. They are not sent to Fellfolio, Apple or an analytics service and are not stored as a profile. Reloading clears the answers. In the breed comparison, the two selected publicly described breeds may appear in the URL fragment after #. This fragment travels with a shared link and may appear in browser history; it contains no breed-finder answers. No analytics cookies are active for these tools.
Emergency card and care handover
The emergency card and care handover process the contact, pet and health information you enter only in the open browser window. Fellfolio does not send these entries to a server or save them automatically. Draft files are read on your device. A photo selected for the emergency card is processed temporarily in your browser on your device and is not sent to Fellfolio. Embedded metadata such as GPS coordinates is not included in the card. If you remove the photo, reload the page or navigate away, the tool discards its copy. Your original file is unchanged. The photo is excluded from JSON drafts but included when you choose to save the card as a PDF or print it. You can choose to download an unencrypted JSON draft or use the print dialog to print the document or save a PDF. These files and printouts contain your information. Closing or reloading the page does not delete them; you must delete them yourself. Share them only with the intended people. There is no automatic transfer to the Fellfolio app.
Email contact
When you write to us, we process your email address, message and information needed to respond. Our email service is Apple iCloud Mail. General enquiries are handled on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; contractual enquiries rely on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. To protect our domain from sender spoofing, Cloudflare also processes aggregate DMARC reports about sending systems and authentication results, based on our legitimate security interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
We keep correspondence as needed to deal with the enquiry, necessary follow-up questions or legal retention duties. Please do not send passwords, payment details or complete health records.
Your rights
Subject to the legal conditions, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your particular situation. Write to [email protected].
You may also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in Baden-Württemberg.

Data in the Fellfolio app
Profiles, pet health records, memories, photographs, videos and documents are stored locally on your iPhone. Core features work offline without a Fellfolio account. When iCloud is available and enabled for Fellfolio, private pet records sync through Apple iCloud/CloudKit across devices using the same Apple Account. Apple processes content and account, record and connection information for this purpose. Private sync and sharing explicitly set up with other people are separate features.
You select individual photos using the native picker. Camera access is requested only for a scan you start. Supported text recognition runs locally. Notifications are scheduled through iOS after your permission. Widgets display pet names, photos or reminder titles only after your explicit choice.
What is stored in a shared group
Depending on the enabled area, profile details, health and medication entries, care tasks, reminders, expenses, contacts, notes, photos, videos, documents and book projects may be sent to Apple and made available to authorised members. This includes group and entry identifiers, modification times and information about who changed an entry or completed a task. Shared files may contain other people’s personal information and embedded metadata. Review these before sharing. Read-only access does not allow editing; editing permission applies to the whole shared group, including other members’ contributions.
Sharing uses Apple iCloud/CloudKit and invited Apple Accounts. The app does not publish shared content to a public feed. Name and species are the minimum shared details; additional areas are chosen by the owner. Your private original stays separate. Enabling a shared area can copy its current entries once; later private edits are not automatically shared. Everyone in this group sees the same enabled areas, including people invited later. Areas are not private to individual members. On iOS 26 or later, you can share a link for join requests. Apple’s link preview may show the group name and information about the inviting person; shared entries become accessible only after the owner approves. The owner chooses read or edit access and can later change permissions or remove members. Personal invitations remain available for older iOS versions. For join requests, Apple shows the owner the requester’s name and, when available, their Apple Account email address or phone number to help distinguish people; this does not verify their identity.
Owners can stop sharing areas or remove members. Changes take effect on other devices after they reconnect and verify access. Copies already downloaded, exported or forwarded cannot be recalled. Sync needs a connection. Background updates depend on iOS and may be delayed or unavailable; open the shared pet and check its sync status. Optional alerts are enabled per device and group and use a generic message without pet names or entry contents. Share only content you are entitled to share. Review personal information in photos and documents; attachments may contain embedded metadata.
Automatic sync and notifications
Open shared pet areas refresh automatically. CloudKit may use silent push notifications through Apple services for background updates. Apple processes technical device, account and delivery information for this purpose. iOS controls timing and execution; immediate or uninterrupted sync is not guaranteed. Visible change notifications are optional and enabled separately for each device and group. They contain neither pet names nor entry content. Local reminders and widgets follow your chosen permissions.
Local copies, retention and deletion
The shared pet is stored in a separate local working copy. Changes not yet uploaded may remain on the device for later sync. After access withdrawal or leaving a group is confirmed, the app removes that group’s local working data and related notifications. Detection can be delayed without a connection. Deletions of shared entries also sync; technical deletion markers may remain to prevent old content from reappearing. Removing the app does not automatically delete iCloud data or existing shares. Recipients must delete any copies they have already exported or forwarded themselves.
Reports, emergency cards and backups are created on the device. You choose their content and recipients. Full backups are unencrypted files and should be kept in a protected location you choose. After preview and confirmation, restoration creates new copies without overwriting existing pets.
Apple services and protection of cloud data
Apple’s terms and privacy information also apply to iCloud. Storage and processing may use Apple’s international infrastructure. Fellfolio does not add its own end-to-end encryption to shared files and does not promise end-to-end encryption of all shared content. Apple’s protections depend on the service, data category and account settings. Pet health records in Fellfolio are not Apple Health app data. Processing to provide the sync and sharing features you request is based on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Apple explains its own processing in its privacy information.

Premium purchases
Premium uses Apple StoreKit with RevenueCat. This processes a pseudonymous purchase identifier and purchase-status information. Pet profiles, health records, photos and documents are not sent to RevenueCat for this purpose. The app has no advertising and does not sell pet data.
