Sociable, energetic and vocal
Samoyeds are active, clever dogs with a dense double coat. Many are vocal and enjoy staying close to their family.
Everyday life
Plan at least two hours of activity each day, secure boundaries and reliable company. Practise recall carefully because prey drive can take over outdoors.
When you need to go out
Being alone needs gradual practice. The RSPCA advises no more than four hours at a time; puppies and some adults need much shorter intervals. Arrange company during longer absences.
Day-to-day care
Brush the coat daily and expect heavy undercoat during shedding. Regular care prevents mats; the coat should not be routinely clipped short.
Size and build
Measurements describe adult dogs and are a guide. Lines and individuals can vary; ask about the parents’ health, temperament and daily life.
Health
PDSA lists hip dysplasia, diabetes, some cancers and eye problems. Ask about hip and eye screening in the parents.
