Fine-boned and closely bonded
Italian Greyhounds can be affectionate yet independent sighthounds. Many are sensitive to cold, noise and rough handling.
Everyday life
Choose walks, short secure runs and gentle training over rough play. Introduce alone time and everyday sounds gradually.
When you need to go out
Being alone needs gradual practice. The RSPCA advises no more than four hours at a time; puppies and some adults need much shorter intervals. Arrange company during longer absences.
Day-to-day care
The short coat needs only gentle weekly care. Protect the dog in cold weather and check teeth, skin and nails routinely.
Size and build
Measurements describe adult dogs and are a guide. Lines and individuals can vary; ask about the parents’ health, temperament and daily life.
Health
PDSA notes bone fragility during growth. Seek veterinary advice promptly after a fall or if you notice limping or pain.
